KONEThe Edge of Amsterdam

The Edge of Amsterdam, Headquarter of Deloitte, is the first building that has received the highest sustainability score according to BREEAM. “The Edge Is the Greenest, Most Intelligent Building in the World” – Bloomberg. It uses geothermal and solar energy and packed with 28,000 sensors installed to basically any device and equipment from essential heating and cooling systems to coffee machines and towel dispensers.

KONE, partners with IBM, Philips lighting to process an enormous amount of data coming from elevators, escalators, autowalk doors sensors to track traffic within Edge floors, rooms and automatically adjust modes and velocity to optimize people flow and most importantly saving energy.

The Edge was the first building to make use of Philips’ Ethernet-powered LED connected lighting for offices. As well as providing power to the lighting, the system is able to transmit data. As such, lights can be paired with sensors and used to monitor aspects like movement, light and temperature throughout the building, helping to inform energy management.

With help of data scientists, I translate the sensor-tracking data into a simple, intuitive Wayfinder UI that facilitates thousands of Edge’s office workers and visitors
